Zeus and Io, Io Tells Her Story

Zeus Io, Io Tells Her Story Zeus Io.  Io was, in Greek mythology, a priestess of Hera in Argos. Seduced by Zeus, he changed her into a heifer to escape detection. His wife Hera sent ever-watchful Argus with 100 eyes to guard her, but Hermes was sent to distract the guardian and slay him. Oil on canvas, 24 inches by 48 inches, 2011. My objective in creating the picture was to encapsulate in a single image the mythological journey of Io and her relationship with Zeus, Hera and Hermes. I used the same formula in my rendition of the Odyssey which […]

Dream Linguistics, Dream Language

Dream Linguistics Dream linguistics. dream language,  is a technique of communication employed by classes of diverse orders of beings desiring to converse with one another. Application of this method is not dependent on the communicating energy systems being of the same race, species or even coexisting to the same time, space or dimension.  The communication will naturally occur when an in-between[i] consciousness state engages between the communiques.  This in-between consciousness is the realm of “creative dreaming,” which has a correlation with the concepts of imagination and art. What we gain through the application of this language technique is realizing we […]

Artist Statement

Artist Statement Art is an externalization of struggle to rationalize and give form to something not understood. The artist, like the oyster, is driven to externalize this conflict into the image of a pearl. In some circles this definition is called exorcism. I believe art should be appreciated through a viewer’s individual intercourse with the work, allowing the image to speak for itself  and not be prejudged by societies academic paradigms. This concept has close parallels to techniques first acquired in childhood, such as the ability to stare at clouds and see recognizable images arise and fall in the mind’s […]

Sabbat or Dark Interpreter, De Quincy Dreams of Levana and Our Ladies of Sorrow

Sabbat or Dark Interpreter, De Quincy Dreams of Levana and Our Ladies of Sorrow Oil on wood, 48 inches by 48 inches, 2016 Since the Middle Ages, until comparatively recently, a conjecture of public opinion held the view that visits of witches and warlocks to the Sabbat were a physical experience. In recent times this view has, by many, been transformed into a concept  that attendance at the Sabbat is induced by hallucinogenic substances, ingredients often absorbed through the skin from the well known “flying ointment”. See Sacred Mushroom and the Cross by John M. Allegro for an illustration of […]

In Times of Peril

In Times Of Peril She Would Call Up All Strange Orders Of Spirits Into Her Aura To Protect Herself From Evil Oil on wood, 48 inches by 24 inches, 2015, Buy the original oil painting from Saatchi Art The painting illustrates a technique utilized by some practitioners of the magical tradition to ward off what is perceived as, and known by, psychic attack. In many ways, the method mirrors the use in Medieval times on churches where a grotesque image, gargoyle, was stationed on the outside of the building to ward off evil influences. In the Pyramid Texts of Ancient […]

Greek God of Sleep Hypnos

Greek God of Sleep Hypnos Oil on canvas, 16 inches by 20 inches, 2015.  SOLD. Inspired by a bronze statue from the British Museum London which I first encountered in the late 1960’s early 70’s. The god of sleep Hypnos, first appears in mythology in the works of one of the earliest Greek poets, Hesiod (lived around 700 BC), where he as (Sleep) and Thanatos (Death) were the terrible sons of Nyx (Night). He was, however, generally viewed as benevolent to mankind. The god was frequently mentioned in literary sources, and associated with poppies and sleep-inducing herbs. Hypnos’ wings allowed him to move […]
