These tarot card images are from The Tarot of the Morning Star, a visual representation of the concepts artist Roger Williamson explores in his books, Howling at the Sky, Black Book of the Jackal, and Lucifer Diaries.

The first edition of the deck, 2007, limited edition of 75 signed and hand-numbered copies, is currently out of print. However, a second edition of 78 cards is now available from Amazon.

Tarot of the Morning Star as Characters of Dream Linguistics

Lucifer as Morning Star is generally assumed to be Venus.  However, I believe that Lucifer, the morning star, should be assigned to Sirius, which rises with the Sun to announce the inundation of the Nile

The rising of Sirius is the birth of the mother’s son, the morning star, which fertilizes the valley of the Nile, the body of the mother, making the mother pregnant with new life.

This new life can be one of two types.  The mother can be fertilized by the energy of Horus to continue the previous world order and maintain the status quo of previous generations.  Or the energy of Set can be realized and expressed as a new world order that rises from out of the ruins of the old to create original and unique life situations.

The illustrations of the Tarot of the Morning Star are visual representations of specific frequencies resonating with their corresponding worlds.  They can be compared to specific stations on a radio dial.

However, unlike the radio receiver that only presents us the ghost voices of disembodied entities that we cannot see, the images of the Morning Star tarot cards offer the experience of vision, sound and emotion, the source of the transmission.  We can see, hear, feel and communicate directly with the entity and are not limited by time and space.

Our brain is our receiver; it is not the source of our sensations.  We should consider that everything we experience may be from an outside influence, including what we call dreams.    We can tune it to whatever frequency we choose so that we can be anywhere and be anything.  Our perception of life’s situations determines the quality of our lives. The concept of the brain as a receiver/transmitter machine for us to control is one of the key concepts of magical technique.  This hypothesis means that our core being is something outside of our brain.

These images are also gates relating to rites of passage and places of testing with parallels to ancient texts such as The Egyptian Book of the Dead.

It has been my experience that just the possession and displaying of these images and others from similar genre, in combination with particular formula, opens up communication with the entities of the realms they represent.  Sometimes referred to as ritual practice but can be as simple as a geometric figure, number or numbers, if one knows their correspondences.

Observers may find themselves thrown into alien landscapes standing beneath strange skies bejeweled with unknown constellations of stars where our laws of geometry and physics do not function.  The fabric between dimensions melts and we morph to flow like liquid poured into forms. Through these experiences, we learn we are not the vessel we happen to inhabit at any one time or place.  We realize we are an unimpeded flow of energy that is not bound by time and space but uses time and space for experience.  We come to know we are infinite

The Tarot of the Morning Star is a small limited edition tarot of only 75 copies, created by Roger Williamson and published in the USA in 2007. His artwork is printed in a soft focus style with few hard edges, giving it an ethereality. Williamson seems primarily inspired by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, thus many of the card designs use Egyptian forms. The ‘Morning Star’ of this tarot appears to be Lucifer, the Biblical Angel of Light, and many of the images incorporate the interweaving of light. His Fool is a portrait of Lucifer. I am not sure if Williamson would agree, but I found some of his imagery somewhat redolent of the coloured imagery William Blake printed in the margins of his poetry. He comes up with some wonderful new envisagings of the familiar arcana. One is his Hanged Man which delightfully metamorphoses into a bat. The deck comes in a solid red box with a paperback book in which he outlines how his ideas emerged out of his study and experience of the Western Magical traditions.
