Magickal Act

The Magickal Act as a “Synchronistic Potential”

A magickal act, when viewed mechanically, is an action with a clear cause-and-effect outcome. In a magickal or synchronistic view, an action is a symbolically charged event that enters the fabric of reality at a moment of perfect alignment for the objective, Kairos¹. Since it’s planted in fertile ground, it doesn’t just yield one result. As it germinates, grows, and propagates, it sometimes produces unexpected outcomes.

How it works:

The Act Itself is a Concentrated Node of “Right Time”

A traditional magickal performance is not performed at random. It is carefully timed to match astrological cycles, lunar phases, seasons, and or personal biorhythms. The magician identifies the “Kairos” for a specific intention, such as a time for new beginnings, banishings, or for love, etc. The magickal machine is the event whose “qualities” align perfectly with an objective at that moment. This alignment grants it significant potential energy.

The Ricochet Effect: Resonant Propagation

Once a potential event enters the timeline, it doesn’t just disappear. It resembles a stone dropped into a pond. This relates directly to the concept behind the Tarot Card Aces.

Resonance

The machine’s symbolic energy vibrates at a specific frequency. It then begins to attract and resonate with events, people, and opportunities of a similar frequency over time. As an example, if you perform a machine for “abundance”, and a week later, you get an unexpected small check, then a friend offers you a valuable item they no longer need, and then you stumble upon a perfect business opportunity. These aren’t direct results of the machine functioning in a linear sense, but rather resonant echoes of the initial symbolic act.

Unfolding in the Unconscious

The most powerful magick works through the psyche. The machine communicates powerfully with your unconscious mind. Once the unconscious accepts this new “program,” it starts to work on your behalf, subtly changing your perceptions, behaviours, and choices over days, months, or even years. You begin to notice opportunities you might have missed, you carry yourself with more confidence, and you make different decisions. This is a slow ricochet that fundamentally changes your life’s course.

Law of attraction

In addition a magickal act creates a “meaningful acausal connection” between your inner world (the intention) and the outer world. After the machine, you experience seemingly random events that are meaningfully connected to your intent. These synchronicities are the “ricochets”—the universe’s way of reflecting your symbolic action back to you in tangible forms.

The “Web of Time vs. the “Arrow of Time

In a web, touching one strand causes vibrations throughout the entire structure. This view rejects a purely linear timeline, the Arrow of Time², favouring a more interconnected, holistic perspective, known as the Web of Time. The magickal performance plucks a specific strand or creates a frequency. The “ricochets” are the vibrations travelling through the web. They affect distant and seemingly unrelated strands and future events. This effect represents a wave of influence that spreads through time and consciousness³, rather than a single bullet hitting a target.

Magickal Act. A Practical Example

The Event

A magickal machine performed on the Winter Solstice, a time symbolically linked to the “return of the light” and new beginnings. The intention is to “bring a new, inspiring creative project into manifestation.”

The Ricochet Over Time:

Week 1: You have a sudden, vivid dream featuring a powerful, creative image, indicating unconscious activation.

First Month 2: You “randomly” meet someone who is involved in a field related to your project, illustrating synchronistic attraction.

Second Month 3: You feel an urge to clear out your old, cluttered environment, creating both physical and mental space for a new, behavioural shift from the unconscious.

Third Month 4: An opportunity for a grant or residency that perfectly aligns with your intended idea presents itself, marking a resonant event.

From the outside, these may seem like unrelated, spontaneous events. But, from the magickal perspective, they represent part of the same “event-wave” initiated by the original magickal machine. The performance served as the catalyst that launched the entire sequence because it took place when the “time was right” for its qualities. In this perspective, the magician isn’t forcing events to happen. Instead, we respond to the synchronistic rhythms of the world. Like a musician, improvising within a jazz ensemble, we introduce our intention into the unfolding melody, then listen and respond as new harmonies and possibilities arise.

Magick evolves into a practice of artfully collaborating with the living symphony of existence.

Footnotes

¹ Kairos is qualitative. It’s the “right or opportune moment.” It’s not a measure of duration, but of a critical juncture when conditions are perfectly aligned for something to happen. This corresponds to the tarot card Aces.

² The phrase “Arrow of Time” was coined by Sir Arthur Eddington, a British astrophysicist, in his 1927 book, The Nature of the Physical World.

³ It is the universe’s way of enforcing its laws, much like gravity. The magickal ricochet exhibits parallels to psychological appearances of childhood trauma effecting individuals in adult life.
