Dead Orpheus The Mousike is Over

Dead Orpheus, The Mousike is Over,  oil on canvas 20 inches by 16 inches, 2017

Ancient Greek mousike is a reference to the Muse’s.

In ancient Greek mythology, Orpheus was renowned for his exceptional musical abilities, particularly his skill with the lyre, and his connection to the concept of mousike. Mousike, often translated as “music,” encompassed a broader range of artistic and intellectual pursuits associated with the Muses, including poetry, song, and dance. Orpheus’s music was so powerful it could charm wild animals, trees, and even rivers, and he famously used his musical talents to attempt to retrieve his wife, Eurydice, from the Underworld.
