Witch” Nudus Circe Weaves Her Spell of Summoning, oil on wood, 48 inches by 24 inches, 2020

This dreamlike painting illustrates the enchantress Circe using her mystical powers to summon Odysseus to her side. Circe’s adept manipulation of her supernatural abilities is portrayed as she conjures a spell, aided by her cephalopod familiar who secretes the essence needed for the enchantment. The painting captures the moment when Circe’s skilful gestures and the cephalopod’s pheromonic web combine to manifest her desire to bring Odysseus to her presence.

The background of the painting is adorned with frescoes inspired by the archaeological findings at the Minoan Palace of Knossos in Crete. Discovered by Arthur Evans, these frescoes are chosen for their historical relevance, as they represent the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations that flourished during the same era, offering significant parallels between the two.
