Taurus Sun Hierophant

Taurus Sun Hierophant Taurus Sun Tarot Hierophant represents a quality within us that registers an awareness of phenomenon. It is not the elucidation of the phenomenon but the bringing to our attention that there is something of which we are not cognizant. Admitting we are in the dark about a subject is our door to learning about it. Overcoming fear to enter the dark is our next step on the path to cognition of the paradox. See Tarot Hermit and Tarot Devil In the foreground of the card the scroll of life unfolds and as it does so the Duat, symbolic of […]

Tarot Five Pentacles, Five Earth

Tarot Five Earth, Five Pentacles Tarot Five Pentacles and each of the Minor Arcana cards numbered 5 express violence, conflict, fear and unsettled influences. This is because 5 is the number of Geburah, the sphere associated with Mars on the QBL Tree of Life. Five Earth, Material Trouble, corresponds to the first decan of the astrological sign Taurus, and the planetary attribution of the decan is Mercury. The Major Arcana card attribution to Taurus is the Hierophant. Material Trouble Material Trouble is the title of Five Earth, representing the first decan of the astrological sign of Taurus. This first decan […]

The Origin of Human Consciousness

Origin of Human Consciousness Dramatised in Ancient Myth and Visual Art The origin of human consciousness dramatised in ancient myth and visual art I was prompted to create this post after reading The Origin of Consciousness in the Break Down of the Bicameral Mind by  Julian Jaynes and recognizing similarities to my theory of Dream Linguistics. Jaynes argues that the breakdown of the Bicameral Mind and the appearance of human consciousness can in a large part be attributed to writing. Because he could now read an individual no longer heard the words of gods or kings The once direct communication […]

Magick Spell

Magick Spell I Called And Something Came Magick Spell oil on canvas, 20 inches by 16 inches, 2017 Purchase the original painting at Saatchi Art A magick spell can introduce the appearance of a spirit, which can often be seen in incense smoke, has close parallels to what is known as pareidolia, to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern, or the human ability to see shapes or make pictures out of randomness.  The concept of pareidolia leaves us wondering whether the spirits are within or without, or maybe both. What are these energies? […]

The Mousike is Over, Dead Orpheus

Dead Orpheus The Mousike is Over Dead Orpheus, The Mousike is Over,  oil on canvas 20 inches by 16 inches, 2017 Ancient Greek mousike is a reference to the Muse’s. In ancient Greek mythology, Orpheus was renowned for his exceptional musical abilities, particularly his skill with the lyre, and his connection to the concept of mousike. Mousike, often translated as “music,” encompassed a broader range of artistic and intellectual pursuits associated with the Muses, including poetry, song, and dance. Orpheus’s music was so powerful it could charm wild animals, trees, and even rivers, and he famously used his musical talents to attempt to retrieve […]

Tarot Prince Cups, Water, Odysseus

Tarot Prince, Cups, Water, Odysseus Prince Cups, Water Odysseus from the expanded and revised second edition of  Tarot of the Morning Star I selected a detail from my painting Odyssey for the Prince of Cups, the wily Odysseus being I feel, an appropriate personality type for the attributes the card signifies. All members of his crew die but Odysseus survives through his gifts of subterfuge, slight of hand and cunning. Achieving his goals by any means necessary. It is worth considering that the individuals represented by his crew might be aspects of his personality which are stripped away through the course […]

Sun Enters Virgo, Tarot Hermit

Hermit Our Inner Guide Tarot Hermit corresponds with Sun in Virgo. The Hermit illustrates we should be guided by the light of life symbolized by the Ancient Egyptian ankh representing his lantern. The Hermits eyes are closed symbolizing introspection, listening to the inner voice. This inner voice, according to Julian Jaynes in his book The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, was the  hallucinated voice of the Gods and  or ancestors commonly listened to by our ancient forebears. The jackal headed figure in the background is s synthesis of Wepwawet and Anubis.  Wepwawet as “Opener of […]
